A search has been launched for a 28-year-old Louisiana man who went missing while on a Carnival cruise with his family.
The disappearance wasreported to authoritiesMonday afternoon after crew aboard the Carnival Glory wereunable to locate the passengeron the ship, according to the Coast Guard’s Heartland Division’s statement on X (formerly known as Twitter).
In a statement, Carnival Cruise Line said the Glory’s security team immediately searched the ship after the guest was reported missing, according toNBC affiliate WDSUandFOX affiliate WVUE-DT.
A broadersearch for the manwas launched on Monday after authorities were alerted, according to the Coast Guard. Crews have since scoured “more than 200 miles of the ship’s voyage path.”
However,“dangerous weather conditions”have hampered the search, which was temporarily paused overnight.
“As soon as it is safe to do so, we will launch additional search assets,” the Coast Guard said.

It is unclear when the man may have fallen overboard, according to the Coast Guard’s statement.
Carnival crew members began searching for Barnett around 7:30 a.m., and the Coast Guard got involved around 1 p.m., they added.
Carnival Cruise Line said its Care Team “is supporting the missing guest’s family on board” the ship, which is expected to arrive in Montego Bay, Jamaica as scheduled on Wednesday, WDSU and WVUE-DT reported.
Carnival Cruise Line did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Family members are now anxiously awaiting answers. On Facebook,Kathy Diane Rouseasked everyone to pray for her grandnephew’s safe return. “Please, please really pray that they find him, and that he is ok,” she wrote in the post on her page.
Dirlean Tate Mason, Barnett’s grandmother, also asked for prayers. “We are holding on to hope and prayer that he will be found safe,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
“Our hearts are breaking,” Mason added. “I can’t believe this is happening."
