Archivists have stumbled across a walking cane that ’s believed to limn a defendant in the compositor’s case of Jack the Ripper , the notorious serial sea wolf who raise hell in the East End of London in the fall of 1888 .

Jack the Ripper was responsible for the slaying of at least five distaff sex workers in the Whitechapel area : Mary Ann " Polly " Nichols , Annie Chapman , Elizabeth Stride , Catherine Eddowes , and Mary Jane Kelly .   The victims were killed with a slit of the throat and , in some instances , their intimate organs were removed and their bodies mutilated .

The adept evisceration has led to significant speculation that the liquidator may have work in a skilled profession involving blades and scalpel , such as a surgeon , Samuel Barber , or fumbler .

“ This walking cane is such a fascinating artifact which comprise such a historically important time in policing , and it ’s amazing that we can put it out on presentation here in Ryton , alongside the original newspaper publisher cuttings , so that our police officer can see first - handwriting how far we ’ve advanced in policing since then , ” Cash concluded .
