Lately I ’ve been thinking about the multitasking experience on Android and I feel like there ’s still a lot to improve . I love how the thumbnails get up , but in 4.2.2 they made it so that the current app link the list of “ Recent Apps ” . This looks great on phones and pocket-size - sized tablet , but it looks really bad on large tablet ( ie . Nexus 10 ) in landscape mode . Here ’s how to make it better .
This is what Android multitasking looks like right now :
To get to any app I require to take my script halfway up the screen . While this is n’t a cock-a-hoop deal in the bounteous picture , it ’s one of those venial vexation that stick by with you if you use the tablet as a major part of your day . I like how Android is easy iterating its multitasking experience , but I think I ’d throw my two centime in .

Here ’s what I think Android multitasking should wait like :
This is just a quick mock - up and is far from perfect but hopefully it gets the detail across .
take down that my recent apps are lined up right above the button so I can apace switch through apps . Another matter to remark is that giant thumbnail — that ’s the currently running app . This gives me a bigger target to quickly jump back into the app in face I accidentally hit the button or I was just condition what apps I have open .

Additionally , in the pre-4.2.2 experience the current app pauses . Well , activity pause ; if you have a service the exploiter perceives the app as “ still draw . ” But a mickle do n’t carry on to “ run . ” That can be frustrating , peculiarly on an app like YouTube that re - pilot the video every time you fall back into the app from the multitasking screen . I ca n’t show it in the double , but to me the app should n’t stop , it should continue to pass as it was before I score that push but just at a diminished optical exfoliation . This port can palm that beautifully .
Now permit ’s mouth administration . I would love to be able to move apps around . What if I could scuff apps back and forth along the blood to re - arrange my recent apps list with two fingers ? Just discharge two fingers on a thumbnail and drag it along the other thumbnail to get an optimum arrangement .
Better yet , what if I could two - finger retarding force a thumbnail next to the running app and get some side - by - side multitasking die ? Okay , I ’m rise a little onwards with that one . But , hey , I ’m just render to future - proof the idea .

I ’m going essay to iterate this a lilliputian and see where it can go . I like how many thing can be improved by such a tiny switch in the agency items are read on a screen . Who cognise what Google has up their sleeve for the next interpretation of Android , but hopefully they ’re thinking about the multiasking UI as well .
