The first rule of not being evil is : do n’t do thing you think are evil . So it ’s a ignominy that Google has violated its own insurance by devote bloggers cash in exchange for writing about its web browser app , Chrome .
Meh , that ’s kind of fine , right ? Mmm , the thing is , paid - for links to the Chrome download page would be just fine according to Google ’s linguistic rule — as long as they were tag up as “ nofollow ” links . That ’s suppose to let PageRank know that a tie was paid for so as to eject it from hunting rankings .
But , uh , some of the links did n’t watch over that guideline .

OK , so this is n’t too bad : it is n’t like Google is culling minuscule kittens , grant . And it could in fact be an innocent mistake on the part of the blogger . But what it more in all likelihood indicates is that Google is catch so large that it ca n’t aid but trip over its own insurance policy . And at that item , it becomes difficult to carry an entire system up to its exist ethical codes .
So , do n’t be evil . At least , if you could remember what you intend by iniquity .
Update : Unruly CEO Scott Button has assuredPeter Kafka at All thing Dthat there ’s nothing too sinister going on . In an email , he tell Kafka : “ As far as I ’m aware , there was one inter-group communication in one post that was not mark nofollow . This was corrected as soon as we became cognisant of it . ”
