George Clooney’s Bat-Signal days are likely behind him.
More than 25 years after appearing as the titular Caped Crusader in 1997’s critically pannedBatman & Robin, the 62-year-old actor joked that it would take a lot to get him back into the Batsuit, despite his brief cameo as Bruce Wayne near the end of this year’sThe Flash.
“I don’t think there’s enough drugs in the world for me to go back there,” Clooney said with a smile during a conversation withEntertainment Tonightlast week at the Los Angeles premiere of his new filmThe Boys in the Boat.
Asked how his surpriseFlashcameo came to be, the two-timeOscarwinner quipped, “There was such a clamor for me to come back as [Batman], as you know.”
“I actually said, ‘Whereare my rubber nipples?’ " Clooney joked, referring to the infamous detail on his suit. “And they were like, ‘Can we do it without the rubber nipples?’ I was like, ‘Well, it’s not reallymyBatman, is it?’ "

Clooney has been the first to admit that he doesn’t think he’s superhero material in recent years, while looking back on his brief turn as Batman inBatman & Robin.
“I did one superhero movie andI f—ed it up so badthey won’t let me near the set,” he joked during an October 2021 Q&A session in New York City following a screening of his movieThe Tender Bar.
Earlier that month, Clooney said he won’t let his wifeAmal Clooneyor their kids, now-6-year-old twinsAlexander and Ella, watch the movie. “There are certain films I just go, ‘Iwant my wife to have some respect for me,’ " he toldVariety.
TheOcean’s Elevenstar added, “It’s bad when your 4-year-old kid goes, ‘This sucks.’ That could be painful.”
But at least one person in Clooney’s life has some kind of appreciation for his turn as Batman: longtime friendJulia Roberts!
“There’s no picture, but George is in my phoneunder code name ‘Batman Cell,'” Roberts, 56, said in October 2022 during the pair’s interview with YouTuberJake’s Takesamid the then-upcoming release of their movieTicket to Paradise.
“Now I have to change it,” she added.
“Now everybody knows,” Clooney joked. “And mine’s’Pretty Woman’— it’s not, but I just tried. I’m literally lying about that.”
The Boys in the Boatis in theaters on Dec. 25.
