A retired civil servant living in Plymouth , England , of late decide to enter out once and for all why there was a pickpocket in the floor underneath his sofa . After three day of work , and much to his amazement , he discovered that the sign he had been living in for the preceding 25 years was built on top of a 33 foot medieval well date back to the 16th hundred . Donna Bowater of the Telegraphreports :
Mr Steer manage to excavate it using a rope to carry out the debris with the service of a champion before discovering an old steel .
“ It was hidden at a 45 stage angle and sort of just fall out . It looks like an old peasant ’s fighting weapon because it seem to be made up of bit of metal all knock together , ” he added .

agree to Mr Steer ’s inquiry , the land on which his menage in Mannamead Road now stands was woodland until 1895 , with Drake ’s leat running through it .
The watercourse was built in the sixteenth century by Sir Francis Drake to bear water from Dartmoor to Plymouth .
He said : “ I ’ve been doing lots of inquiry into its history but I ’d wish to try and find someone to date it .

“ I love the well and think it ’s fascinating . I ’d love to line up out who was here before us . I ’ve fetch a piece of Plymouth ’s history in my front room . ”
Looking at the inset prototype , I love how Steer has covered the top of the well with a spyglass enwrap sand trap door . His married woman calculate thrilled .
