Winner – Waiting Out the Storm
I ’ve been desire to take a picture like this with raining sparks for for a while now . Originally I had planned on using some 4th of July sparklers and doing it light - painting - style , but this blade woolen technique turned out way well ! I had my acquaintance , Robyn , positioned on top of the wall in the background knowledge , wave our flaming whisk broom - on - a - reefer , while I and our model , Veronica , hid under the umbrella — which is really a photo umbrella , as you’re able to tell by the nice leap it have the flash that was positioned behind us . It turns out that photo umbrellas are n’t so honorable for protective cover though , because I ended up burn a button - sized gob into the berm of my shirt .

Hamster Ball
3rd sentence is the spell I guess … I assay getting out to shoot on Friday and Saturday and both times I was unsuccessful . Sunday however , I was able-bodied to spend 45 minutes in the backyard just after dusk . I tried this over the summertime after reading about it online , so I already had all the necessary ingredients to play with the molten blade woollen . I used a composition of roach , tied to a whisk , and lit the brand woollen with a light . I convey some other great shots deep in the woods , and I even used a speedlight to light behind a tree . Once I had the shot set up , I had my Dad release the shutter . He was really excited to assist being a former pro photographer and Kodak retiree . I used Aperture to apply the stock Toy Camera preset . Canon EOS Rebel T3i , Tamron 18 - 270 mm F/3.5 - 6.3 Di II VC PZD , Canon Remote Switch , Sunpak tripod ISO 100 , f/4 , 5 second

Stroll in the Rain
I had such a blast with this challenge . At first I was a picayune nervous but I was presently relax once we got going . My acquaintance Katrina gladly stood under the Dame Muriel Spark to make this picture and I ’m so felicitous she did because I thought It come out groovy . I shoot this with my Canon T3i , focal length was 58 mm , an exposure of 30 sec at F-8 and an ISO of 100 .

Stage Lights
After following these Gizmodo Shooting Challenges for many hebdomad I ultimately decided to get on board with this latest challenge . I differentiate some friends about it and with disbelief get them on board . We first begin experimenting the proficiency under bridges and hidden parking lots to avoid run - ins with the police . Around midnight we hook into the car park and hurried to capture a few pictures in the Gene Harris Band Shell . Overall it was a fun assignment . However we did have one fatal accident … a glove that had a hot coal state on it and burn through it rather cursorily before I could stomp it out . Equipment : Nikon D90 , Tokina 11 - 16 mm . setting : f/8 , 20 sec . , ISO 200 , 14 mm focal duration .

Yarn
I ’ve wanted to do the steel wool experiment for a while now , and this gave me the alibi I needed . I run to the computer hardware computer storage , then realized I did n’t know precisely what I require . After looking online ( smartphones ! ) , I pick up some Sir Ernst Boris Chain , a clasp , whisk broom , and steel fleece ( 0000 ) . The blastoff is off of my deck of cards into a clearing past my back yard . I used a glow stick to pock a blot in the field , and then focalise on it . This helped me focus in the darkness , and gave me a uniform place to stand . Of naturally my remote trigger was n’t working , so my groom-to-be had to amount out and press the shutter . I had a 10 second delay set for two reasons : it debar shiver – and when I saw it start count down ( blinking ) , I would ignite the wool ( butane light ) . I swung the steel wool in a traffic circle in front of me , then lento turned in place to make a sphere . This is a 100 % crop of the result . I shot it in RAW , and adjusted the contrast and did a small recovery of the highlights , but it is otherwise it is as - blastoff . Camera : Canon T2i with a Sigma 18 - 50 mm , f/2.8 - 4.5 lens . The photographic camera setting were : 18 mm focal duration , shutter speed 30″ , f.5.0 , ISO 200 , shot in RAW

Purple Rain
I did this challenge with a mathematical group of people and I will admit that I was afraid of doing the existent spinning . Even take the picture , I setup my camera , put it on a two 2nd timekeeper , then once I started to take the picture I would run back for cover , gratefully I was n’t teased about it . Despite the reverence of fix myself on flak or wallop myself with the cable and get that get in the style of volunteering to do the actual spinning , it was a merriment challenge . A grownup “ give thanks you ” to the other members in the group who did the spinning . I picked this picture to submit because it was unlike than the typical circuit that you get ( and because it received the most view on my flickr report -NuBPix- ) . I also manifestly alter the colouring material flavor in Lightroom to make it even more unique . This image was shot with a Nikon D3100 using the kit lens with a focal length of 18 mm . I did a 30 2d exposure at f/9 and the ISO was 200 .

A Most Generous Pour
I break the bottom off the wine feeding bottle and stuck a bit of metal channel in to give it a recollective “ burning chamber ” , and that whole mess was harbor up by a motorcycle base . I would trigger the shutter , fall the steel woollen in the duct and then apply a bump dryer to flub some Spark down through the feeding bottle and into the wine drinking glass . This was all done in my service department at dark , where the temperature was maybe 35 level . photographic camera : Olympus E-500 , F/11 , 20 2nd picture , ISO 200

The Incident In the Krog Street Tunnel
I came up with the idea to take the Krog street burrow becuase I ’d always been facinated by the amount of graffiti and the placement . It is locate just underneath a MARTA rail in a somewhat more discharge down area of town with higher offense etc . I started out flash on the sidewalks in the tunnel but was n’t getting enough of the scene fascinate , so my friend and I moved to the marrow of the tunnel in the midst of dealings . We then tried our best to clock the shots in beween waves of cars getting let through by the streetlight beyond . With this finical shaft we had about 20 seconds to spin the Muriel Spark with no traffic . you could see that there are some headlamp at the closing of the tunnel however ! A car start up to drive our fashion so we quickly lept out of the way , put the genus Lens roof on , go out before the cops show up .

Halo
On a cold and rainy Austin , TX night , we dress up shop class under the railroad tracks near the local chip and putt golf course . I had a admirer bring down a studio apartment flash that we gel a dark blueness and fired first shutter for this supposed “ practice shot . ” The tunnel had a comparatively symmetrical area adjacent to this , and we later shot exposure in each without moving the camera , intending to bridge the photos for a mirror image effect . This unfortunately did not sour out as well as signify . There is a connexion to that photograph here : http://imgur.com/0msZY
While admittedly not a very complicated or imaginative twist , I feel that this photo succeeds due to the closely unedited gradient do by the shading of the orange tree from the wool and the blue angel of the light , mixing into a really beautiful shade of purpleness . Coupled with some very interesting reflexion off the freeze cold water , I am fairly glad with this snapshot disregardless of how long it admit to feel my toes again . 5D Mkii
